UAE’s Masdar Eyes Green Energy Investment in Indonesia's New Capital

VINANSIA.COM - Masdar, a renewable energy company from the United Arab Emirates, has expressed interest in investing in Indonesia’s new capital city (IKN). The energy giant is considering a green energy investment through a floating solar power project.

According to Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, "There is energy from the UAE, specifically solar power, but the location has not been determined yet," in a statement on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

Basuki revealed that Indonesia has already met with representatives from Masdar. The company is currently conducting a feasibility study for the floating solar power project in Nusantara.

"Masdar and I met just yesterday, and we are still in the feasibility study phase. If the study is approved, the floating solar power project will be tendered, and Masdar will act as the project initiator," Basuki explained.

He added that the project will eventually be put out to tender, allowing Masdar to submit its proposal. Meanwhile, the Indonesian government is actively pursuing investments in Nusantara.

Basuki also mentioned that soon, five companies are set to lay the foundation stones in the new capital. These companies, including BCA, Intiland, Indogrosir, LGE, and Swissôtel Nusantara, have signed cooperation agreements with the Nusantara Authority.

The signed agreements represent a final commitment before the investments are realized.
