VINANSIA.COM - Benny Laos, a notable entrepreneur and politician from North Maluku, tragically lost his life in a speedboat fire on October 12, 2024. 

Benny Laos was born and raised in Ternate, where he faced challenges early on in his education. Position as Regent of Morotai Island

Benny's political career began to flourish when he was elected as the Regent of Morotai Island from 2017 to 2022. Partnering with Asrun Padoma, who served as Vice Regent, they gained significant support from a coalition of political parties, including the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Golkar, Gerindra, the Democratic Party, the National Awakening Party (PKB), and the National Mandate Party (NasDem). Their administration focused on regional development and community welfare.

Gubernatorial Aspirations

In the 2013-2018 gubernatorial election for North Maluku, Benny ran for the position of Vice Governor alongside Syamsir Andili. Despite not securing the role, his candidacy underscored his potential as a formidable figure in local politics.

He made significant contributions to youth development in North Maluku, particularly in the arts and sports. According to the 2021 Wealth Report for State Officials (LHKPN), Benny Laos’s net worth exceeded IDR 500 billion. His assets primarily included securities valued at over IDR 248 billion and land holdings worth more than IDR 158 billion. Final Incident

Benny's life was cut short when the speedboat he was aboard caught fire at the Bobong Regional Harbor in Taliabu on October 12, 2024. The explosion occurred during refueling. Despite receiving intensive medical care, Benny passed away at 5:20 PM WIT, leaving behind a legacy of public service and ambition.
