VINANSIA.COM - Ahmad Muzani is a prominent Indonesian politician and businessman, currently serving as the Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) for the 2024-2029 term. Born on July 15, 1968, in Tegal, Central Java, Muzani has built a distinguished career that blends his background in media, education, and politics, making him a central figure in Indonesian governance, particularly through his key role in the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra).

Educational Background

Muzani's early education began at Madrasah Ibtidayah Islamiyah, followed by SMP Ikhsaniyah and SMEA Negeri in Tegal. After graduating from SMEA in 1987, he moved to Jakarta to pursue higher education at Ibnu Khaldun University, where he studied Communication Sciences, earning his degree in 2009. His educational journey, while non-traditional in timing, reflects a deep commitment to personal development, laying the foundation for his leadership in both media and politics.

Early Career

Muzani's professional journey began in journalism. In 1989, he started as a journalist at *Amanah* magazine, where he gained firsthand experience reporting on Indonesia’s dynamic political and social landscape. Alongside journalism, he taught at Muhammadiyah High School in Jakarta, demonstrating an early inclination towards both communication and education. By 1995, he became an editor at Ramako FM Radio, further honing his skills in the media industry.

In 1999, he ascended to the role of editor-in-chief of berpolitik.com, a political news website, where his influence expanded within activist and political circles. This diverse background in media made him not only a keen observer of Indonesian politics but also a communicator with a powerful voice.

Political Involvement

Ahmad Muzani's political career formally began in 2002 when he joined the Star Reform Party (PBR), where he served as Deputy Secretary-General. However, his major political break came in 2009 when he joined Gerindra, a party founded and led by Prabowo Subianto. Muzani ran for office in the 2009 legislative elections, winning a seat as a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) representing Lampung I, a position he held until 2014.

His rise within Gerindra was swift. He was reelected in 2014 and again in 2019, cementing his status as a key figure in the party. He took on significant leadership roles, including Chairman of Gerindra's faction in the DPR and Chairman of the National Financial Accountability Body (BAKN).

Muzani’s influence within Gerindra grew even more when he was appointed Secretary-General in 2015, a role he has held since, with his mandate renewed in 2020. This position reflects his close association with Prabowo Subianto, further solidifying his power base within the party.

Recent Leadership

On October 2, 2024, Ahmad Muzani was unanimously elected as Chairman of the MPR, after serving as Deputy Chairman from 2019 to 2024. As the leader of Indonesia’s highest legislative body, Muzani plays a critical role in guiding national policy and overseeing constitutional matters, making him a key decision-maker in shaping the future of Indonesia’s democracy. His election to this role signals the trust and influence he commands among his peers.

Personal Life

Ahmad Muzani is married to Himmatul Aliyah, and together they have four children. Despite his political prominence, he maintains a reputation for being approachable and connected to various sectors, including business and politics. His personal relationships and down-to-earth demeanor make him a bridge between the elite and grassroots communities in Indonesia.
