Education and Early Career

Marimutu Sinivasan completed his primary and secondary education in Indonesia, attending the University of Islam Sumatera Utara. However, he did not pursue higher education and instead began working at a plantation factory.

Business Ventures

In 1958, Sinivasan launched his textile business in Medan. Two years later, he relocated to Jakarta and established the first polekat (sarong fabric) manufacturing plant in the city. His business trajectory continued to rise, and by 1967, he had founded a batik company. In 1972, he further expanded by opening a batik factory in Batu, East Java, and a smuggling factory.

Formation of Texmaco Group

Sinivasan developed the Texmaco Group, with a 1,000-hectare industrial complex located in Subang, West Java. This complex includes a polytechnic machinery school, inaugurated by the Minister of Industry at the time, Ir. Hartarto. Additionally, Sinivasan established polymer factories in Semarang in 1977, 1985, and 1986. He also founded a garment factory in Ungaran, now managed by his brother, Marimutu Manimaren.

Expansion of Texmaco

Texmaco's operations are centered in Serang, where it produces heavy equipment and machinery. One notable product is the Perkasa truck, with an order of 800 units from the Indonesian National Army (TNI). In Karawang, Texmaco built a 250-hectare textile complex, with products widely recognized under the brands Simfoni and Texana. These products are not only used domestically but are also exported to major companies like Marks & Spencer from the UK and Tomy Helfinger from the USA.

Arrest and Recent Controversies

On September 8, 2024, Marimutu Sinivasan was apprehended by immigration officers at the Entikong Border Post in West Kalimantan while attempting to flee to Malaysia. He claimed he was traveling for medical treatment, but he was on a watchlist due to his substantial debt to the state.
