VINANSIA.COM - Gibran Huzaifah, a visionary entrepreneur, has made significant waves in Indonesia's aquaculture sector through his pioneering company, eFishery.

Born in Jakarta in 1989, Gibran faced adversity early on, including periods of hunger during his studies at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).

Armed with a biology degree from ITB in 2012, Gibran embarked on his entrepreneurial journey in aquaculture. He began by leasing ponds to cultivate catfish.

Driven by a passion to optimize fish feeding practices, Gibran developed an innovative automatic feeder using state-of-the-art Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology.

In 2013, he founded eFishery, which quickly became the world's largest fishtech startup, revolutionizing how fish farmers operate.

Today, eFishery supports over 70,000 fish farmers and shrimp breeders across more than 280 cities and districts in Indonesia, providing not just a marketplace but also crucial financial access for farmers.

Gibran's achievements have earned him international recognition, including Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia (2016), Tatler Asia Generation T (2019), and EY Entrepreneur of the Year Indonesia (2020).

Gibran's entrepreneurial journey began modestly, selling doughnuts at ITB's Salman Mosque, tutoring privately, and working in a minimarket.

Motivated by challenges in aquaculture marketing during his college days, Gibran launched into catfish farming with minimal capital, eventually founding Dorri Foods Indonesia to sell processed catfish in Bandung.

His persistent efforts in overcoming industry challenges led to the creation of the e-feeder, a breakthrough technology commercialized through eFishery in 2013, significantly benefiting Indonesian fish farmers.
